Fix “DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET”: Windows 7, 10

When it comes to using a computer, smartphone or tablet, there can’t be many things more frustrating than not being able to access the Internet. If you use Google Chrome as your Internet browser, you might have encountered the following error: “DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET” on Windows 7, 10.

Google Chrome is one of the most popular Internet browsers for good reason. Personally, it is one of my favorite Internet browsers. So I really know how great it is. Having said that, nothing is perfect and, from time to time, things can go wrong.

This tutorial is about one of the most common errors that can happen when you use Google Chrome to access the Internet on a Windows 7 or a Windows 10 computer.

The first thing to do when you get this error is to remain calm. Now, I know that keeping calm when you suddenly can’t get access to the Internet for any apparent reason can drive people into a panic. Trust me, I’ve been there.

But, there is really no reason to panic because this error can be easily fixed.

And this is precisely what we are here for. I have done all the necessary research so I know all the different methods to fix this particular error.

Yes, there is more than one way to fix this irritating error but the good news is that all of them are easy to follow. In this tutorial, I will go over each and every one of the possible ways to fix this error.

Tutorial Guidelines

And although it is up to you how you would like to use this tutorial, I would like to offer you some guidelines designed to save you time and effort so that you can fix this error effectively as quickly as possible.

I would strongly suggest that you read (or even just skim read) the whole tutorial before you attempt any of the fixing methods contained therein.

 

There are basically two reasons for this. The first one being that you need to check that you are in a position to attempt them before you begin and, therefore, you should become familiar with everything that is involved in fixing this error before you begin. And the second reason for reading the whole thing through before doing anything else is because you can then decide which method you would like to begin with.

Having said that, I would advise that you follow the methods in this tutorial in the ways in which they are presented. Believe it or not, I have not presented them in a random order. Far from it, they are all presented in a specific order for a reason. And that reason is no other than to help you fix the error effectively and in as little time as possible.

And that is why the first method to be presented is the one that is most likely to work for the largest possible amount of people being afflicted by this error. If you followed the order of the possible fixes, you would unlikely to have to try them all out.

But how you approach the different methods and the order in which you attempt them is entirely up to you. If you feel comfortable choosing which method you would like to begin with because of your expertise or any other reasons, then go right ahead!

Alternative  

Before I go over all the different methods to fix this error, I think it is fair to let you know that there is a quick alternative available to Windows 7 and Windows 10 users.

Even if you prefer to use the Google Chrome to access the Internet, if you are a Windows user, you would also have access to the Internet Explorer web browser by default. And, of course, you have also other Internet browsers available.

So, if you need to access the Internet real quick you can use the Internet Explorer web browser or, indeed any other Internet web browser that you have previously installed as an alternative before you fix the error with Chrome.

Please note that this is not a method of fixing the error but, rather, a quick alternative if you cannot wait to fix the error.

Having said all that, fixing the error does not take too long and, if you want to continue using Google Chrome, sooner or later you will need to tackle it.

So, now, without much further ado, here are all the different methods to fix this error.

Possible Fix #1:

The first method for fixing this error would simply involve changing the TCP/IP4 server addresses.

If you do not know how to do this, do not worry all you will need to is follow these simple steps:

1. Grab your Windows 7 or Windows 10 computer.
2. Hit the Start button. This action will prompt the search box to display on your screen.
3. Type in the following in the search box: “network” (no quotation mark).
4. Wait for the different options to display on your screen and then click on the following option: Network and Sharing Center. This action will prompt the Network and Sharing Center Control Panel to display on your screen.
5. Click on the Change adapter settings option located on the left-hand side of the Network and Sharing Center. This action will take you to another window.
6. Then, depending on your connection you will need to right-click on either the Ethernet or Local Area Connection (basically, right-click on whatever shows on your screen).
7. Once you have right-clicked on it, select the Properties option.
8. Wait for the Networking window to display and then double-click on the following option: Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). This action will prompt the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties window to display.
9. Check the following option: Use the following DNS server addresses.
10. Once you have checked it you will need to set the Preferred DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and the Alternate DNS server to 8.8.4.4. These are the Google public DNS.
11. Once you have changed your DNS server to the Google public DNS, you should click on the OK button.

Once you have completed these steps, launch the Google Chrome Internet web browser again and check whether the error persists. If it does, then you should move on to the next method.

Possible Fix #2:  

If changing the TCP/IP4 server addresses to the Google public DNS server, then you should try to use command prompts.

Again, if you do not know how to do this, simply follow these steps:

1. Grab your Windows 7 or Windows 10 computer.
2. Hit the Start button. This action will prompt the search box to display on your screen.
3. Type in the following in the search box: “command prompt” (no quotation mark).
4. Wait for the different options to display on your screen and then right-click on the following option: Command Prompt.
5. Then, from the drop-down menu, choose the Run as administrator option.
6. When you are prompted by the User Account Control, click Yes. This action will cause the Command Prompt to display on your screen.
7. Next, type the following command in the box: “ipconfig /release” (no quotation marks) and press Enter.
8. Next, type the following command in the box: “ipconfig /all” (no quotation marks) and press Enter.
9. Next, type the following command in the box: “ipconfig /flushdns” (no quotation marks) and press Enter.
10. Next, type the following command in the box: “ipconfig /renew” (no quotation marks) and press Enter.
11. Next, type the following command in the box: “netsh int ip set dns” (no quotation marks) and press Enter.
12. Next, type the following command in the box: “netsh Winsock reset” (no quotation marks) and press Enter.
13. Restart your Windows computer.

Once your Windows computer has fully restarted, launch the Google Chrome web browser again and check if the error has been fixed.

If the error continues, you still have one more method to fix this error.

Possible Error #3:

 

The final possible method to fix this error would involve updating your network adapter driver.

Here’s what you would need to do in that case:

1. Grab your Windows computer.
2. Press the following two keys simultaneously: the Windows key and the R key. This action will prompt the Run dialog box to display on your screen.
3. Then type the following command in the Run dialog box: “devmgmt.msc” (no quotation marks).
4. Press Enter.
5. Skim through all the different options until you find Networks adapters and expand it.
6. Then right-click on the network adapter software and, from all the different options, select Update Driver Software…
7. Next, select the Search automatically for updated driver software option

If you follow these steps, Microsoft will scan your software for any updates. All you would need to do is to follow the simple on-screen instructions until the process is completed.
