Fix For Service Host: Local Service Network Restricted

No matter what we do and how well we look after our computer and other devices, it is inevitable that from time to time things can and do go wrong. A common problem affecting Window users is when the service local service network is restricted.

This problem normally affects CPU usage and disk space. In this article, we will go into this issue in as much detail as possible all geared toward helping you fix it.

There are some problems that you can work around until you fix them but, unfortunately, this is not the case with Service Host Local Service Restricted. If you get this error you will want to fix it as soon as possible. In fact, you might not do much with your Windows computer until you have fixed it.

The good news is that getting this error does not mean that you have necessarily done anything wrong. Of course, just knowing that does not make the error go away but it does offer some consolation if you have to deal with it. Very few things are as frustrating than getting an error and not knowing why you are getting it. In this case, although the causes behind this error can very varied you can at least rest assured that it was not anything you did. So, nothing you could have done differently would have prevented the error.

What Does “Service Host Local Service Network Restricted” And How Do You Know If It Is Affecting You?

As with any error, it is important to understand what the error actual is and how to recognize it before you attempt to fix it. Unfortunately, in this case, we cannot provide you with detailed information on what causes this error to happen but we can illuminate in how it would affect you and how you can easily identify it.

In the case of Service Host Local Service Network Restricted, as we have already pointed out succinctly in the introduction, this issue relates to CPU (Central processing unit) usage. So, the first thing you will need to check out your Task Manager in order to see whether this problem is causing high CPU usage.

So, if you look at your Task Manager by pressing CRTL + Shift +Esc and notice the following message: “System Host: Local System (Network Restricted)”, you will know that you are being affected by this issue.

This complex process can affect your PC’s performance really negatively because it results in an extremely high CPU usage and it takes up a lot of disk space. This can be as high as 95 percent or more of CPU or available disk space. So, until you fix this problem you will not really be able to keep using your Windows computer normally. This is precisely what makes this error so urgent to deal with as soon as it rears its ugly face, as it were.

Apart from using up to 95% of your CPU, it can use up to 72 MB/s (mega bytes), which will affect your computer’s capability to both read and write data to the hard disk drive. You’d be amazed about how much that can affect your day-to-day usage of your Windows computers.

This problem affects mostly Windows 10 computers but it was also reported early on for Windows 8. As this specific problem does not seem to affect Windows 8 anymore, we will focus on how to fix it on Windows 10 computers for the rest of this article.

 

How Do You Fix “Service Host Local Service Network Restricted”?

The first thing you will need to know about fixing this problem is that, unfortunately, the possible fixes for it are not very simple. As you will soon find out, the two options that we have for you in this tutorial article are both quite complex. Having said that, if you just follow the steps carefully, you should be able to get there even if you are not very computer savvy.

The good news is that it is could possible to fix it but you should be aware that it will take some time and effort.

This can get really frustrating because it problem affects a lot of users and because until it is fully fixed your computer may be virtually unusable. As we said earlier there are, unfortunately, no shortcuts that can be taken. You just need to bite the bullet and fix the problem.

There are different available solutions to this problem, which is both good and bad news. It is bad news in that you may have to try several different possible solutions before stumbling upon one that would do the trick for you. On the other hand, this is good because it means that you are very likely to find a solution that would fix this problem once and for all.

 

The first method would involve disabling the super fetch service. This is the best way of fixing the problem but there is a chance that it will not work, which is why we will give you an alternative fix right after. If you do not know how to disable the super fetch service, all you will need to do is follow these steps:

1. Grab your Windows computer.
2. Next, you will need to press the key at the same time: the Windows Logo key and the R key. This action will open the run function, which you will need in order to proceed with the next steps.
3. Once the run function opens you will need to type in the following command: services.msc
4. Hit the enter key.
5. Then, a lot of services available on your Windows computer will be listed. The list will most likely be quite long, so you might need to scroll down for quite a bit until you find something called superfetch.
6. Once you have found superfetch, you will need to edit its settings. Just double click on it so you are permitted to edit it.
7. Once you are able to edit superfetch, you will need to click on the stop option.
8. Then you will need to make sure that the start up type is set to disabled. You will most probably need to change this yourself.
9. Next, click on apply.
10. Then, click on OK.
11. Finally, restart your computer.

 

Once you have restarted your computer you should check out whether the problem has now been fixed. Just checked whether the CPU and disk usage have decreased notability.

If it has not been fixed, you should give the next method a try. This method, as you will notice, is not all that different from the first one, so if you were able to follow the steps for that one, you should also be able to do so for this one without any additional trouble. For this second method, there are also a few steps involved:

1. Grab your Windows computer.
2. Next, you will need to press to the key at the same time: the Windows Logo key and the R key. This action will open the run function, which you will need in order to proceed onto the next steps.
3. Once the run function opens you will need to type in the following command: regedit
4. Hit the enter key.
5. Then, you will the registry editor. You will need to navigate in the left-hand side panel until you get to the following: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>ControlSet001
6. Once you have gotten to that directory, you will need to click on the services section. The Services section is located in the left hand side panel.
7. Then, still in the services section, scroll down until you get to Ndu.
8. Locate the registry value named Start in the right hand panel and double click on it.
9. Once you have double clicked on Start, you should change its value data from whatever it is to 4. This action will disable this function.
10. Then, click on OK.
11. Finally, close the registry editor.

Once you have followed all these steps, you will need to restart your computer. Once your computer has restarted, go ahead and check System Host: Local System (Network Restricted) in order to verify whether this is still using a lot of your CPU or disk space. If everything has gone according to plan, it should not anymore.

If you have followed the steps that we have laid out for you to the letter, the problem should be solved. If it has not, it will probably mean that you have done something wrong (perhaps skipped one or more of the steps that we have gone through here) so go back and do it all over again. We did warn you that both the methods we were going to present were fairly convoluted so it would be very easy to inadvertently make a mistake when following them, so take your time and do it carefully.
