What Is Uninstall Error Code 30180-4?

This error is a relatively new one, as it seems to affect only users downloading the 2016 version of Microsoft Office. It happens right when users are trying to install it, and it is the app’s way of telling you that there is a setting in your firewall or proxy that is preventing you from installing it. It’s popular enough that we even included it in our Ultimate Windows Error Code List.

It can effect any Windows operating system after and including XP, so it is one where the error is withing the Office program, not the operating system. It may also occur if you are trying to download specific Office application, like Outlook or Excel, so not necessarily just the entire bundle.

Can You Tell What’s Causing It?

Unfortunately, the quick answer here is no initially, as there are a variety of things that could be causing this error. As I mentioned already, it could be withing your firewall, proxy, Internet connection, or a couple of other things. There’s really no way of knowing what the cause is originally, and the error message you receive won’t notify you either.

However, as you go through the solutions that I will get into later, you will be able to eliminate some possibilities. So although you may have to go through all of the steps, they shouldn’t take too long and they are all easy to complete.

Solutions

So as you can see from the screenshot of what the error will display, something definitely went wrong. The big thing it makes a point of saying is that they couldn’t install Office, which will be a major blow to many people who use their features every day. As a writer, I know that I would lose a lot of productivity if this happened to me, as I use Excel and Word nearly every single day. It’s simply not an option for me or many others to have this not working. That’s why speed is imperative when fixing this error.

Something that I find a little ironic about this error message is that it says to make sure you’re connected to the Internet, but the only solutions that it gives you both require an Internet connection. If you truly are suffering from Internet connectivity issues, then my bet is that you won’t be able to access their content either. Also, most of the time this error occurs when you are in fact connected to the Internet, so it’s not very helpful of a suggestion and actually just leads to people becoming more confused, as they know that they are connected.

So here’s the list of possible solutions that you should try in order that I present them here. Remember that between each solution, you’ll need to try to install Office again to check if it corrected the error or not. If it still happens, then you can simply cross that solution off, as you now know that’s not what is causing it, and then move on to the next step.

Solution 1: Disable Windows Firewall

As I already stated, many time this error is because of a firewall setting within your operating system. This is just one possible cause, but it’s important that you check if that’s the reason. I encourage trying this solution first because it is one of the quickest and even if it doesn’t work, you can at least eliminate it from a potential cause.

  1. Press Win + R to get to your command prompt and then type Firewall.cpl. Once you have typed that in, double-check that it is correct and then Press Enter.
  2. By typing this simple command in, the Microsoft Windows Firewall Window will open.
  3. Click On in the section where it reads Turn Windows Firewall on or off
  4. Then scroll down and under Home or Work Network Location Settings and Public Network Location Settings, click On once again where it says Turn Off Windows Firewall. I know that it may seem a little bit confusing that you will be clicking On to turn it off, but that is what you will be doing.

Create an Exception in Your Firewall

So this step ties in with this solution, as it is only applicable if temporarily disabling your Windows firewall corrected the issue. If it did, then great, because you’ve found the error on your first try! That must feel good, but I’m sure that you’ll probably want to enable your firewall again.

However, it might create problems while using some of these Office applications, so what do you do? Well, the answer is for you to create an exception in your firewall for all Office related folders. That way, you get the best of both worlds; the error is erased and you still get top quality protection on your operating system. Here are the steps to do this.

  1. Choose Control Panel from the Windows Start menu. Open the Security Center utility.
  2. Under Manage security settings for, select Windows Firewall. The Windows Firewall box will be displayed.
  3. Open the Exceptions tab and click the Add Program button. In the Add a Program dialog, click Browse and locate the application you wish to allow. So for this solution, you’ll want to add all of the Microsoft Office programs.
  4. Verify is listed in the Programs and Services list and press the OK button to accept the changes.

Solution 2: Disable Antivirus Program

The premise of this potential cause is the same thinking as the firewall blocking you from downloading it, except that it isn’t your operating system, but a third party application. Therefore, you need to go to all of your applications and find all of the anti-virus programs on your computer. Sometimes, people aren’t even aware that they have these programs, so it’s important that you locate them all.

Once you do find all of these types of programs, open each of them individually and then disable them temporarily. Now, every anti-virus program will be a little different on the steps required to accomplish this, so I won’t really go into details on each and every one, as there are literally hundreds out there. Like many people will go ahead and do in the first place, if you still can’t get the Microsoft Office 2016 to install correctly and you are still receiving this same error, go ahead and either call or go online to Microsoft’s support. They are helpful and many times they will start off by giving you many of the same solutions I listed here. Therefore, if you are able to tell them that you already completed many of those steps, they’ll be able to more quickly diagnosis the exact problem and find a solution faster.

Conclusion

Microsoft Windows is a powerful and great operating system, but it definitely comes with its bugs. This particular error is associated with the program Microsoft Office and it is usually associated with either something blocking you from installing the application or a communication error between it and the system.

Whatever the case may be, these two solutions should be able to solve the problem so you can probably install these essential tools that nearly everyone needs on their computer. Besides just learning how to correct this error, you also learned about accessing your firewall settings, which could prove to be useful skills later on.
