The scenario is, unfortunately, all very familiar for Windows user: you are in the middle of performing an update and, suddenly, for no apparent reason whatsoever, you get interrupted by an error message. The error message can vary but, today, I want to talk about Windows update error 80244019.

I don’t have to tell you how frustrating this can be. If you are reading this article, you are probably all too familiar with this. The worst thing about it is that it can take a lot of time before you figure out what to do.

Luckily for you, you are now extremely close to fixing this error once and for all. Whether you have already devoted a lot of time trying to fix this error (perhaps you have been searching around for a solution) or whether this article is one of the first things you clicked or tapped on when trying to look for fixes, you’re a lot closer to finally fix it!

Why? Because I have done all the research for you and will present it in this tutorial and a clear and detailed way.

As tends to be very often the case with this kind of errors, there are quite a few different ways to fix it because of the sheer variety of likely underlying causes.

All that being said, it can be nigh impossible to find out what the cause it without doing some digging first. This may make fixing this error something quite complicated but it doesn’t need to be so.

In fact, this is not really as hard as it sounds. Troubleshooting is part and parcel of fixing the problem. Therefore, trying out the different methods will also act as a way to find out what the cause of the problem is.

Before proceeding to the possible fixes, and just to make sure that this article will work for you, check that you have gotten the following error message:

“Windows could not search for new updates. There was a problem checking for updates. Error(s) found: Code 80244019 Windows Update ran into a problem.”

So, without any further ado, here are the different possible fixes or Windows update error 80244019.

Possible Error Fix Number 1

This method works if what is causing the error is a connection issue. So, if your update gets interrupted by this error message, the first thing that I would suggest you do is stop the Windows Update service and then restart it.

You may be wondering how to do this, so here are the simple steps you will need to follow:

1. Grab your Windows computer.
2. Press the following two keys simultaneously: the Windows key and R This action will prompt a run dialog to display on your screen.
3. Then, you will need to type the following command into the Run dialog box: “services.msc” (no quotation marks)
4. Click or tap on the OK This action will now prompt a Windows services dialog box.
5. Go through the Windows services dialog box until you find the Windows Update
6. Right-click on the Windows Update services and choose the stop
7. Then right-click on the Windows Update services one more time but now choose the start option, instead.

These are all the steps you will need to follow in order to stop the update so you would then be ready to attempt it again. If this does not do the trick then move on to the next method.

Possible Error Fix Number 2 

If the first method was about connection problems, this second possible fix is about what is known as data execution prevention.

 

Do not worry if you do not know what this all, all you will need to do is follow these simple steps:

1. Grab your Windows computer.
2. Open the control panel in one of the following ways depending on what version of Windows you are using: type “control panel” into the search bar; or click on the start icon and then on the control panel option; or press the Windows key and the X key simultaneously, wait for the WinX menu to display on your screen and then select control panel.
3. Head over to the view by drop down menu located on the top right-hand side of the screen and select the following option: “large icons”.
4. Then, locate the system icon (it looks like a desktop computer) and click or tap on it. This action will cause a new window to display on your screen.
5. Click or tap on the advanced system settings located on the left-hand side of the System window. Again, this action will cause for yet a new window (System properties) to display on your screen.
6. Once you have clicked or tapped on the Advanced tab, click or tap on the settings… button. This action will then displace the Performance Options window.
7. Check the following option: turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only.
8. Once you have checked on that option, click or tap on the Apply button.
9. Click or tap on the OK button twice.
10. Finally, restart your computer.

This solution is slightly more convoluted than the first possible fix but only because there are a few more steps involved.

Once you have restarted your computer, you should try to perform the update again and see if the error occurs again. If it does, then just go on to the third method, as you would have already ruled out both connection problems and issues with data execution prevention.

Possible Error Fix Number 3 

In all honesty, one of the previous methods to fix this error should work. In most cases one or the other does. If you are confident that you have given them both a go (and did not skip any steps), then there is one final thing that you could try.

 

Windows Update has an inbuilt troubleshooter service that will not only find any errors but, will also, more importantly, fix them all for you.

The Windows Update Troubleshooter is an amazing tool if you have already tried everything else. If you do not know who to run it, here is how in some simple steps:

1. Grab your Windows computer.
2. Click or tap on the Start button.
3. Search for “troubleshooting” (no quotation marks) and wait for the results to show up on your screen.
4. Click or tap on the Troubleshooting control panel option and wait for a new window to display.
5. Once the control panel window displays on your screen, locate the System and Security option under “troubleshoot computer problems.
6. Click or tap on the link that reads “Fix problems with Windows Update”. This action will prompt the Windows Update troubleshooting window to display, finally.
7. Wait until the Windows Update troubleshooting window displays.
8. Then click or tap on the advanced option. This action will take you to the advanced options.
9. Once in the advanced options, check the box next to “apply repairs automatically” to enable repairs and click or tap on run as administrator.
10. From the different options that will display on your screen, select the Windows Update option.
11. Once you have selected the Windows Update option, click or tap on the Next button.

If you follow these simple steps, the Windows Update troubleshooter will begin to do its work. The process will take some time, so I suggest that you are patient and perhaps do something else way from your computer while troubleshooting is locating and fixing this error.

Not only will you know what the actual problem resulting in this error message is but you will also be able to see on your screen if the Windows Update troubleshooting service has been able to fix it automatically for you or not.

If the problem is fixed, which will be the case more often than not, you will see a green checkmark next to the word “fixed”. So, just click or tap on the close button and move on. The problem is fixed!

Otherwise, if the problem is not fixed, you will know this because next to the description of the problem sound you will be able to read the words “not fixed” and see a red cross instead of a green checkmark. If that is the case, do not worry. Simply, click or tap on the “explore additional options” and follow the onscreen instructions.

Having said all that, it is very unlikely that the Windows Update troubleshooter will not be able to fix the problem automatically and it will always find it.
